Mohamed Nasheed (Dhivehi: މުހައްމަދު ނަޝީދު) (born May 17, 1967) been elected as President of the Maldives following election in October 2008.Mohamed Nasheed got 54% of the vote in the Maldives' first free elections.

He is commonly referred to in the Maldives as Anni and is a former member of Parliament for Malé. Nasheed is also the founder and the presidential candidate of the Maldivian Democratic Party who have successfully won the majority of the votes in the election held on 28th October, 2008, thus the current Maldivian President-elect for the next five years. He is an outspoken critic of the Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and his policies. Due to his criticism of the government, over the years he was arrested and sentenced several times.
